Recording drums
Probably the most challenging instrument to record and it is very common, for students in particular, to start by placing mics all over the kit. It is very important to have an understanding of the drum kit, tuning and what you are trying to achieve in the mix BEFORE you start.

There is some great advice available from an experienced Aussie engineer, John Sayers, on his website. I recommend you check it out at http://johnlsayers.com/Recmanual/Titles/Recording_Drums.htm .
