Digital Audio Networking

Digital Audio Networking allows for multiple audio channels to be transferred over a Cat5e or Cat6 ethernet cable for recording and/or live sound reinforcemment. There are a number of systems available and while none is yet regarded as the "standard" many digital audio hardware manufacturers provide connection options for the most popular systems.

The predominant system today is Dante which uses a combination of software, hardware and network protocols over ethernet cabling. Dante was developed in 2006 by a Sydney-based company named Audinate and improves on previous technologies such as Cobranet. Dante licenses the technology to a number of leading audio component manufacturers.
